Education

A major objective of the FORT Center is to integrate research into an education program to produce well-trained, educated professional land managers and scientists capable of managing forests based on applied research and applicable cultural norms. Our primary motivation is achieving inclusive excellence and equity for our minority students to support higher rates of achievement in STEM disciplines and greater access to STEM careers.

The FORT Center will promote an education-through-research approach to address the challenge of managing the health of forests in the Southwest. Undergraduate and graduate students will engage in hands-on learning of both the ecological and social dimensions of resource management. The FORT Center will integrate a variety of elements intended to facilitate the recruitment, retention, and advancement of students for a seamless transition from undergraduate through PhD studies.
